Parents skeptical of new system as math scores stagnate

Reporter summarizes RSU2 meeting run by the Curriculum Director for parents.  This was the "set the stage" meeting to shock parents with the terrible the RSU2 academic performance data.  Create the atmosphere to welcome radical change.  Unfortunately for the RSU, only a handful of parents attended and many weren't embracing the RISC model.

Especially noteworthy are the comments that follow the article.

  1. Soooooo...RSU 2 shared "their" NAEP data. Really?? How is it possible that they have "district specific" NAEP data? The fact is...it is not possible. What was their motivation to share statewide NAEP data and mislead parents into believing that it was "district specific?"

Read below to learn more about NAEP data:

Question to the MEDOE: Just to clarity, NAEP district results are statewide only (not by district). Is this correct? There is no way that a district can find out their school or district specific NAEP results. Is this correct?

Reply from the MEDOE: Yes, NAEP releases only state-wide results, unless you are one of the 11 special TUDA districts across the nation, such as Boston, Chicago, etc that are very large cities, test all students, and therefore they do get specific district results. We don’t have any TUDA districts in Maine.

Therefore the NAEP results released in Maine, on http://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/states and published on district report cards, are Maine state-wide results.
